Overview
This half-day course is designed for Managers, Supervisors, and HR professionals. Participants will gain insights into the importance of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, as well as the Equality Act 2010 and various forms of discrimination. The course will cover topics such as harassment, banter, bullying, and victimisation, along with the legal frameworks that safeguard employees from discrimination and unfair treatment in the workplace.
Course Aims
Gain knowledge of the Equality Act and understand what constitutes acceptable behaviour. This enhanced understanding will empower delegates to manage their teams more effectively and foster an inclusive environment by recognising all forms of discrimination.
Course Objectives
By completing this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the definitions of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and know why they are important to you and your organisation
- Know what protection exists under the Equality Act 2010
- Understand what would constitute discrimination in the workplace, the different types of discrimination and what unlawful behaviour may look like
- Know the difference between Harassment, Bullying, Victimisation and Banter
- Understand who can be held liable and what the potential outcomes may be

Module 1:
- Defining Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
- Why are these things important?
Module 2:
- The Equality Act 2010 – What and who is protected?
Module 3:
- Discrimination and the law – Understanding the different types of discrimination
- Disability discrimination – What are reasonable adjustments
- Discrimination Quiz – Test your understanding
Module 4:
- Harassment, Bullying, Victimisation and Banter – Learning the definitions and the pitfalls
- ‘New’ Sexual Harassment – Changes to the law and employer responsibilities
Module 5:
- Liabilities and remedies – Who can be held liable and what could it cost?
- Case studies – A look at various case studies in small groups from ‘landmark’ cases to ‘grey areas’ and recent rulings
This course is also available as a 90 minute briefing aimed at employees and team members to ensure that everyone in the workplace understands the law surrounding discrimination, bullying, victimisation, harassment and banter.
